We have been growing and selling asparagus at Birchden Farm, Groombridge, East Sussex since 1997. The farm buildings serve as a farm shop specialising in the retail selling of fresh, home-grown asparagus and other asparagus related items. Alongside the shop is the grading and packing area which is on full view to all visitors. The original asparagus beds were planted here in 1989 and 1990 and formed the basis of the enterprise. The business has since expanded and asparagus is now grown at various locations around Kent and Sussex.
Our aim at The Asparagus Farm is to encourage customers out to the farm shop so that they can buy asparagus on the day it is cut, for freshness, quality and flavour. Whilst visiting the farm shop customers are also able to see the asparagus grading process taking place in a very open environment.
In addition to the asparagus sold in the farm shop and at local farmers markets in Kent and Sussex we also supply asparagus to London hotels and restaurants where quality and freshness are key.
The asparagus season is very dependent upon the weather but generally starts during the last week of April and runs until the 21st of June..
